The racing area just outside the island of Hankø offers
one of the best race courses in Norway, some would say one of the best race courses in the world. The island is located in the south-eastern part of Norway
at the Oslo Fjord, not far from the Swedish border. The race course is exposed to sea breezes from the southwest and generally
offers very good and fair sailing. The wind conditions are normally stable with no tidal problems. From
Oslo to Hankø it`s about 60 minutes drive by car.
Fredrikstad is the closest city with 70.000 inhabitants, just 15 minutes drive from Hankø. Hankø is known to be a summer resort with private summer homes and the Hankø Hotel &
Spa.

Sailing has been an important activity and has made the island internationally well known. For many years King Olav stayed
most of the summer at his summer house or at the Royal Yacht “Norge”. Hankø offers tennis courts, areas for swimming, forest
walks and horse riding.
There is a good 18 hole golf course 10 minutes drive from Hankø. A nice little ferry takes you from the mainland to Hankø where berthing and accommodation are located. The ferry takes 3-4
minutes and goes directly to the yacht harbour.
KNS cooperates with Hankø Yacht Club (HYC), a private club, which was founded in 1954 by senior members of KNS aiming to promote
international yacht racing at Hankø. The club has its picturesque clubhouse and a protected harbour on the island a few hundred
metres from the mainland.
Participating boats will be moored along the berths just outside the clubhouse. The berths are new and offer fresh water and
electricity. Wireless internet access is available at HYC on your arrival.
The Hankø Hotel & Spa with 230 beds is located 5 minutes walk from HYC and there is one additional restaurant on the island. On the mainland across the
sound, there is a grocery store and a marina with fuel etc. The city of Fredrikstad offers a variety of services and has many
hotels, restaurants and historic sites worthwhile visiting. Sailing distance to Oslo is 45 nautical miles. The distance from
the northern part of Denmark to Hankø is 100 nautical miles
