Notice of race for the 2012 One Design Series.
Notice of race
The Organizing Authority is Royal Norwegian Yacht Club (KNS) in conjunction with
Fredrikstad Seilforening (FS).
RULES
The regatta will be governed by the rules as defined in the Racing Rules of Sailing.
The statutes for the Cups will apply.
The following rules and prescription of the Norwegian Sailing Federation will apply;

Scandinavian Sailing Federation prescription to RRS 30.2 and 30.3 will apply and will
be stated in full in the sailing instructions.
Crews shall be weighed during the registration period prior to racing in accordance with
the International Melges 24 Class Rule C2.2 and the International Formula 18 Class Rule C.3.2.
If there is a conflict between languages the English text will take precedence.
ADVERTISING
ISAF Advertising Code will apply.
Boats may be required to display advertising chosen and supplied by the organizing authority.
Boats displaying her own advertisement shall present a valid advertisement license at registration.
The organizing authority will report any missing advertisement licenses to NSF.
ELIGIBILITY AND ENTRY
The regatta is open to all boats of the 11M OD, Melges 24, X-99, Formula 18, 5.5mR, Express, H-Boat, Dragon
and IOD classes complying with class rules.
A class will not be eligible to enter unless there is a minimum of 7 boats correctly entered before entry closing date 15 June 2012.

Entry closing date is 15 June 2012.
The entry is not valid until the entry fee has been paid.
FEES
The required non-refundable entry fee is NOK 2.000, plus any bank charges and transfer fees.
Late entries, accompanied by a late entry fee of NOK 3.000 may be accepted at the discretion of the
organizing authority.
The entry fee includes mooring at Hankø Yacht Club from Wednesday 4 July at 12:00 hours until Sunday
8 July at 20:00 hours, one free light meal, and one free beer.
Online booking of tickets to Sailor’s Party Friday 6 July at Hankø Fjordhotell & Spa at NOK 300 each before
entry closing date.

The scheduled time of the warning signal for the first race Thursday 5 July to
Saturday 7 July is 12:00 hours.
The scheduled time of the warning signal for the first race Sunday 8 July is 11:00 hours.
No warning signal will be given after 15:00 hours on Sunday 8 July unless it follows
signal of general recall or postponement of a race whose first warning signal had been made before 15:00 hopurs.
SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
The Sailing Instructions will be available upon registration at the Race Office at Hankø
Yacht Club from Wednesday 4 July.
VENUE
The races will be held at the traditional KNS race courses off the island of Hankø, near
Fredrikstad. Attachment A shows the location of the racing areas.
THE COURSES
The courses to be sailed will be a Windward-Leeward configuration.
PENALTY SYSTEM
For Melges 24 class and Formula 18 classes RRS 44 is changed so that the One Turn Penalty replaces the
Two Turns Penalty, except that if the penalty is given afloat by
the protest committee it shall be a Two-Turns Penalty.
A boat that has taken a penalty under RRS 44 shall fill in an acknowledgement form
and deliver it to the race office within the protest time.
SCORING
Between 8 and 10 races are scheduled for all classes.
4 races are required to be completed to constitute a series.
If 5 or more races are completed, a boats series score will be the total of her race scores excluding her worst score.
HAUL-OUT RESTRICTIONS
Boats shall not be hauled out during the regatta (from 11:00 Thursday 5 July until the finish of the last race Sunday 8 July)
except with and according to the terms of prior written permission of the protest committee. Such permission shall only be
granted in case of damage that needs repair ashore. The protest committee may request to be present during the haul-out
and inspect the boat ashore. This instruction does not apply to a boat that withdraws from the event.
DIVING EQUIPMENT AND PLASTIC POOLS
Underwater breathing apparatus and plastic pools or their equivalent shall not be used around keelboats between the
preparatory signal of the first race and the end of the regatta.
RADIO COMMUNICATION
Except in an emergency, a boat shall neither make radio transmissions while racing nor receive radio communications not available
to all boats. This restriction also applies to mobile telephones.
Individual and general recalls for Melges 24 and 11M OD classes may be announced on a dedicated VHF channel.
PRIZES
Cup Race trophies will be awarded.
REPLACEMENTS
Substitution of competitors will only be allowed after prior written approval of the protest committee.
Substitution of damaged or lost sails or equipment will not be allowed unless approved by the race committee. Requests for
substitution shall be made to the committee at the first reasonable opportunity.
IDENTIFICATION ON SAILS
A boat shall comply with the requirements of Appendix G governing class insignia, national letters and numbers on sails.
The race committee will protest a boat that is in breach of this rule.
DISCLAIMER OF LIABILITY
All those taking part in the regatta do so at their own risk and responsibility. The organizing authority, and any other party
involved in the organization of the regatta, disclaim any and all responsibility whatsoever for loss, damage, injury, inconvenience
or death that might occur to persons and materials, both ashore and at sea in conjunction with or prior to, during, or after
the regatta
as a consequence of participation in the event. Each boat owner or his representative accepts these terms by entering and
registering
for the race.
Specific attention is drawn to RRS Fundamental Rule 4, which states: “The responsibility for a boat’s decision to participate
in a race or
to continue racing is hers alone”.
INSURANCE
Each participating boat shall be insured with valid third-party liability insurance with a minimum cover of NOK 4.000.000
or the equivalent
from time of arrival to time of departure from Hankø.
MEDIA RIGHTS
By entering the event, competitors give the organizing authority the right to publish and / or broadcast in any media photos
and videos
taken of persons and boats during the event for the purpose of creating publicity for the event.
